Egg Wants to Expand in U.S., Germany, Japan, Les Echos Says
Paris, Oct. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Egg Plc, Britain's biggest Internet bank, wants
to expand in the U.S., Germany and Japan, Chief Executive Officer Paul
Gratton told French daily Les Echos.
In May, Egg bought France's ZeBank to gain customers in Europe's
third-biggest market and said the new unit won't be profitable until 2004.
Egg will start selling its own products in France by year-end, Gratton said.
Egg was one of Europe's first Internet banks and has attracted 2.3 million
clients in the U.K. by selling cheap loans and paying above-average interest
on savings accounts. The company is 79 percent owned by Prudential Plc.
